Scott... in action!
Much like a
viper, I occasionally migrate from the shadow of my den
and blink at the outside world. Of course, your
fastest-moving of the writer species is still somewhere
between snails and turtles in the Race to Get Somewhere.
This page will be refreshed from time to time to include
moments from my travels and also to honor bookstores that
are worthy of the Hall of Fame. And to keep me from
taking myself too seriously.

This was a serendipitous outtake from the appropriately
named Stone Silent Productions feature of "Buried
Beneath." Fill in your own punch line. Mine is,
"A thing is a terrible waste to mind."

More demonic plotting with an attractive author (uh, I'm
the ugly one, in case you haven't figured that
out)--Alexandra Sokoloff of "The Harrowing" at
TrinocCon 2007

This Fourth of July they let me play with four strings
and actually plugged me in. I swear, no moonshine was
harmed in the making of this photograph.

Me and my cajun voodoo priestess Deborah LeBlanc at
Hypericon 2007

Sherrilyn Kenyon and some creepy fan at Hypericon
2007--Sherri has the absolute coolest accoutrement--the
coffin is her purse

Me and RH (Rachel) Stavis at ShevaCon, Feb. 2007. Wonder
why she sold more books than I did?

Playing guitar on a Fourth of July parade float.

Sharyn McCrumb and me at the Great Smoky Mountain Book
Fair, Nov., 2005. Possibly the only writer who is saltier
than I am.

Frightfest 2005 at Lazy Lion Books, Oct. 29, 2005,
Fuquay-Varina, NC: Stephen Mark Rainey, Gina Farago, Drew
Williams, Scott Nicholson, and ugly rubber troll. Or is
that the ugly rubber troll and then Scott?

Shockliners at Dragoncon--I was in my "Fat
Elvis" period. Or pregnant with Elvis's love child.
I can't remember which.

R.H. Stavis and a
cheerful me at DragonCon, Sept. 4, 2005--I think I was
channeling Brian from the photo below

Brian Keene, Scott, and Dale Bailey at Books-A-Million in
Asheboro, NC. This was back when I actually had books in
print...

Jon Hodges, Eric S. Brown and Scott in Sylva, NC--the
Young Turks and The Old Ottoman

Stephanie Simpson-Woods, Stephen Sommerville and Scott at
the Wilkes Co. (NC) library--really, I'm not THAT scary.

At
the local Waldenbooks, where The Manor outsells Grisham. Well, it did. That day. I swear.

Scott
and Book Warehouse (now Black Bear Books) manager Scott
Wheeler. My hometown indie in Boone, NC, has done a lot
to promote me.

Signing the chair, a hallowed tradition at Fireside Books
in Forest City, NC. 2003, I believe. My hair was still
dark--see what book publishing does to you?

Janet, Scott,
and Phillip at The Harvest book launch, B&N, Hickory
NC. The alien on the table was my official tour mascot.

At a Mountain Writers workshop, March 2003. That's Eric
Brown to my left. His mother wants him to write just like
me.

Watauga County Library poster, 2002 (photo
by Marie Freeman). That's my girl. Don't stalk her or
I'll kill you.

Kelly Goldberg and Mehitobel Wilson make pleasing
Southern-belle bookends at the 2001 DragonCon. Dear
Kelly--one of a kind. She will always be missed.

Here's a cute
little reason why one of my novels took 18 months to
complete. My co-author tended to have control
issues.
