I was a musician in between the two main stages of my writing career-- the stage where I wrote a ton of awful poetry and short stories and the stage where I decided to get serious about a professional career as a novelist. I still believe that each stage of our lives is essential to the next. Playing in a few bands and occasionally performing solo, recording music with some really cool people, and jamming with relative strangers helped my spiritual and "artistic" growth.

While I might have a lot more novels written if I'd been working on those during the decade I spent pursuing a music career, I don't think my life would be as full and interesting, and who's to say whether I would have as much to write about, or if I could reach that mysterious inner land where fiction comes from. I seldom play anymore, but I don't miss it very much because writing novels has been so satisfying. I wouldn't have made a very good rock star anyway, because I'm a bit reclusive.

But occasional moments of that past life are worth capturing, in all their flawed glory. So here are some songs, along with their approximate recording dates. You can click to go to each song's page, read the lyrics, then listen or download as mp3 files. These songs appeared in the multi-media CD-Rom "Extremes II" from Lone Wolf Publications. You can also read about my music career in "Between A Rock And A Rolling Stone"
